History
The county's first Confucius temple was built in 1684 and fell into ruin under Japanese rule. Only its Chongsheng Shrine survives, beside Old City Elementary School. The present temple was built on the lake in the mid-1970s (sources give 1976 or 1977), modelled on Song dynasty architecture and the temple at Qufu.
