About Takao Table

Takao Table is an independent guide to eating in Kaohsiung, part of Southern Taiwan Tables. We are not paid by any restaurant, and nothing here is advertising.

How places are chosen

Every place on this site meets one of these rules:

  1. In the current Bib Gourmand selection. All 21 Kaohsiung restaurants in the MICHELIN Guide Taiwan 2026 Bib Gourmand list.
  2. A past Bib Gourmand that is still open. 8 places that were selected in earlier years; the label shows which years.
  3. A local classic with independent backing. Listed on the city government's tourism site, or covered by at least two reputable outlets (newspapers, magazines or TV programmes) in the last three years.

We leave out chains, places with no fixed address and anywhere we found reported as closed. Each place links to the sources we checked, and the descriptions are our own.

The Bib Gourmand list changes every summer. We update the labels after each new selection; a year shown on a label is the year of that guide.

"Bib Gourmand" labels state a fact about the MICHELIN Guide's published selection. Takao Table has no affiliation with the MICHELIN Guide.

Signature dishes and the dish guide

For each place we list what it is known for, based on the MICHELIN Guide, the city tourism site, Taiwanese media and the shop's own menu. Some stalls sell one thing; some restaurants have five dishes worth ordering, so the number varies.

The dish pages explain what a dish is and where it came from. Food origin stories are often family legends, so where sources disagree we say so rather than pick one.

Opening hours

Many of these are family-run shops that close when they sell out or take days off at short notice, and many close for Lunar New Year. Where sources disagreed or we could not confirm hours, the page says so, and the "Open now" filter leaves those places out. Details were last checked in October 2026. Each place page links to Google Maps and, where the shop has one, its own Facebook or Instagram page, which are the quickest way to check the latest hours.

The "Good to know" notes on a place page (cash only, queues, English menu and so on) appear only when a published source says so. No note does not mean the opposite.

Maps

Maps use OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors). Each place page also links to Google Maps for directions.

Translations

This guide is written in English, and the Spanish, German, Japanese, and Korean editions are based on the English text. Chinese names are left as they are so you can show them when ordering. If something reads wrong, please tell us.

Photos

Photos come from Wikimedia Commons and are used under the licences below. Where a photo was taken at the shop itself, the place page says so. Otherwise it is a representative photo of the dish, or of the area around the shop, and was not taken at that shop.
