Cishan was a banana-shipping town and Meinong a Hakka farming town, and both are about an hour inland by bus. Eat pork offal noodles and pan-fried meatballs in Cishan in the morning, then have a farmhouse lunch on the way to Meinong.

Getting there

Kaohsiung Bus E28 (Kaohsiung–Cishan–Meinong Express) leaves from Kaohsiung Main Station and stops at Cishan Bus Station and Meinong; express E01 runs from HSR Zuoying. Check the timetable on the city's iBus+ site.

On the way

  • Cishan Old Street: Early-20th-century shophouse fronts, the old Cishan railway station and banana snacks.
  • Meinong: A Hakka farming town known for oil-paper umbrellas and the lake on its north side.
