History
Britain moved its vice-consulate to Takao in November 1864 and made it a full consulate in 1865, working at first from a ship and a rented house. The office at Shaochuantou and the residence on the hill were built in the late 1870s, linked by a path of granite, coral stone and brick about 200 metres long. The consulate closed in 1910, and the buildings passed to the Japanese government in 1925, later serving as a weather station and an aquaculture station. The restored site reopened to the public in November 2013.
