What it is

Old-style black tea mixed with fresh milk. At Lao Chiang the drink has a slightly bitter edge, almost like coffee, which some people love and others find too strong.

Where it comes from

TVBS Supertaste reports that Lao Chiang (老江紅茶牛奶) in Kaohsiung was founded in 1953 and is open 24 hours.

How it is made

Lao Chiang uses old-style black tea as the base and mixes in fresh milk.

How to eat it

The standard partner is a toasted sandwich, most often ham-and-egg toast with a runny egg. Breakfast or a late-night snack, it works for both.

In Kaohsiung

Lao Chiang's main branch is in Xinxing District, inside the Liuhe Night Market area.
